In awesome news for South African gamers, Ster Kinekor Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation 4 (PS4) (CUH-1000A series) gaming console will be reaching local shores on 6 December 2013.

Mario Dos Santos, SKE CEO said: “South Africa will be releasing the PlayStation 4 prior to Christmas 2013 due to the logistics of getting the stock to our shores”.

“The price point, although not officially set due to the uncertainty around the Rand exchange rate, is currently planned at an RRP of R6 299 including VAT and it will not be beyond this for launch. Retail will be communicated to plan at these levels.”

A total of 15 Blu-ray Disc titles developed by SCE Worldwide Studios and numerous software developers and publishers from around the globe will be released between the launch of PS4 and December 31st. Combined with digital download titles, 33 titles will be available before the end of the year. Some of these titles include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Skylanders Swap Force, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Assassins Creed: Black Flag and Watch Dogs.

The release of the PS4 locally a fair amount of time before Xmas is excellent news for South African gamers who are usually not top priority for international companies. This comes after Microsoft bumped eight countries off the 2013 release list of the Xbox One

This means that the One console will only be launched in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand as well as Brazil, France, Ireland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain and Mexico this year. South African Xbox fans would have to wait till next year to purchase.
