The Photo & Film Expo has become a bit of an institution over the past eight years, and this weekend it is back for the ninth edition. Still at the Ticketpro Dome in Northgate, the Expo is moving into the newly launched Blue Wing venue as well as the original Casino area and Amphitheater. The organisers note that the event and workshops are completely reformatted to better cater for both the attendees and exhibitors, giving it the name of Bootcamp.

If you have ever attended the Expo you know one of two things. Firstly, there is a lot of photographic gear to tempt you, and that you’ll most probably want to check your bank balance before going.

Secondly, there are loads and loads of opportunities to get tips and tricks from professionals on improving your photography. Speakers the likes of Shaun Harris, Natalie Field, Tim Moolman, Yolandi Jacobs, Andre Badenhorst, Stephen Segal, Blunt Moya and Leon Oosthuizen are all offering their valuable insight, listing only a small number of the full list of speakers on offer. Some of the topics covered include Edit like a Master, Long exposures, Conceptual photography, Copyright, Infra-red photography, Underwater photography and Cinematography. There are also Masterclasses running, going into detail on certain topics, but these are paid-for workshops.

If you are unsure about when exactly to go to catch the topic of your choice, check the schedule here, or download a PDF programme here.

As always there’s also a competition running, with anyone who purchase a ticket for the event eligible for the lucky draw. With R80 000 in prizes to be won one can only hope that the god of luck is smiling on you, since the prizes include a sweet Fujifilm X-T2 with Fujinon XF 16-55mm lens, a Wacom tablet, and a College of Digital Photography course valued at R3 380.

How much to enter you might ask? R80 gets you in for the day, with a weekend pass costing a mere R150. Tickets can be purchased here.

The Photo & Film Expo kicks off tomorrow, 27 October at 09:00 and runs through to Sunday, 29 October. We hope to see you there.
