Pokémon Go passes 100 million downloads
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 2 August 2016 | Categories: newsIt appears as if the early momentum shown by Niantic Labs' Pokémon Go mobile game shows no signs of slowing down. The game has crossed the 100 million download threshold, according to App Annie. Towards the end of July, it had registered an estimated 25 million downloads, which goes to show just how popular the game has proved, in spite of issues involving permissions and several bugs.
While 100 million is indeed a significant total, TechCrunch estimates that it may be even more, as it reported roughly 50 million downloads on Android devices alone after the first 19 days of the game's release in select regions across the globe.
Also intriguing, particularly if you're an investor or shareholder in Niantic Labs or part-owner of Nintendo, is that Pokémon Go is raking in a reported $10 million per day from in-game purchases. Whether or not these recent numbers will result in Nintendo's share price rising again remains to be seen. The company's shares took a steep dip last week, after Nintendo informed investors that it was only a part owner in Pokémon Go's developer, Niantic Labs.
Regardless of what investors or developers do, it seems like the wave of Pokémon Go is yet to crest.
