Porsche unveils Passport subscription service for $2 000 per month
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 11 October 2017 | Categories: NewsThe concept of car clubs have been around for quite some time. People join by paying a specified fee, and they get to drive a different exotic and expensive vehicle each month. Now it seems that idea is entering the digital age, with Porsche launching a Passport subscription service, starting at $2 000 per month, in the American city of Atlanta, Georgia.
As with most services these days, Passport is app driven, with subscribers given a choice of 22 different Porsche models, including the 911 Carrera S and Panamera 4S. The more expensive the model, however, the higher the monthly fee becomes, but sadly it does not appear that any classic or vintage cars are in the mix.
The service is set to begin in November, with Porsche clearly taking a play out of the book of media streaming services like Netflix, which too are pay as you use. At this stage, it's unclear what other vetting processes subscribers will have to go through, in order to sign up for the service, but we're guessing a sizeable bank account will be required.
With Cadillac offering a similar service Stateside, it should be interesting to see if other carmakers follow suit with this model.
