When it comes to Gigabit LTE modems, Qualcomm seems to be leading the charge. The manufacturer is already onto its second iteration of the fast-paced modem, preparing to debut the Snapdragon X20 to the public in coming days.

The X20 ups the download speeds from its predecessor, the X16, which was unveiled last year, offering up to 1.2 Gbps according to Qualcomm. While those speeds are indeed enviable, the company notes that such speeds will be difficult to reach on a consistent basis if they were placed within a current mobile device.

Furthermore, we won't be seeing an X20 LTE modem anytime soon, with Qualcomm sticking to its initial estimation that device manufacturers will only have access to it in 2018. With MWC 17 around the corner, it appears as if Gigabit LTE will be one trend to keep tabs on.
