Apple is expected to release a new iPhone later this year. They've done so routinely for the past few years now, and 2017 is likely to be no different. That said, this is the device's 10th anniversary, which means something special is expected. Furthermore, the cost of new parts has rumours churning that the new iPhone will be delayed in its usual September-slated release.

While the precise unveiling for the new iPhone is unknown, The Verge and Fox Business believe that at least one new mobile device will be released by Apple in September, amid rumours that the Cupertino-based company's latest smartphone will only see the light of day on late October/November

The reason for this stems from a recent quarterly earnings release by Apple, which saw new iPads help push the company's profits for Q3. Another tidbit from the release was Apple's Q4 projection of an earnings of between $49 billion to $52 billion. Such a number is deemed high enough to suggest a new mobile device is on the cards within the next few months.

Adding possible credence to the theory are Tim Cook's words during the earnings release, with the Apple CEO noting they are expecting to have, "a very exciting Fall". Naturally this needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as the CEO would never openly state the company would have a lacklustre quarter, but it could hint at a device unveiling fast approaching.

Whether it is one, two or three new iPhones remains to be seen. As such, we can officially say iPhone rumour silly season is in full effect.
