Even though Adidas owns Reebok, you don't really see major collaboration between the brands. However, to mark the Instapump Fury’s 25th anniversary, Reebok and Adidas have fused technologies to create the new Instapump Fury Boost. The Instapump Fury Boost combines Reebok’s Instapump custom-fit upper with the energy return of Adidas’s well-known Boost midsole cushioning.
The first of three exclusive Instapump Fury Boost packs, the "Prototype” model features the original colourway of designer Steven Smith’s ‘pullover’ Instapump Fury production sample. For the first time, this classic white, royal blue and solar orange Fury colourway will be released.
In addition to celebrating Reebok’s innovation legacy, the Instapump Fury Boost “Prototype” gives a subtle nod to Adidas’ Boost revolution by incorporating the same mesh panelling used in the original UltraBOOST.
Smith’s pullover sample was a pivotal moment in the Instapump Fury’s development. Made from scrap tennis shoe panelling, the raw prototype proved that the Fury’s radically unconventional upper could be successfully manufactured. Smith’s jagged-cage design minimized bulk and securely cradled the upper’s delicate inflatable bladder. The original Reebok Instapump Fury eventually went to market in 1994 as a running shoe without laces thanks to the Pump inflateable technology.
After the "Prototype" pack, users can expect two more in the near future:
“OG Meets OG”: The “OG Meets OG” pack salutes the inaugural Instapump Fury and UltraBOOST colourways. Convinced that the Fury had to make a visual statement, Steven Smith struck on an incendiary citron yellow upper, glowing against crimson and black accents. It was a bold choice that perfectly captured the Fury’s relentlessly inventive and independent spirit. The Instapump Fury Boost “OG Meets OG” will see a global release on 22 November at select outlets.
“Black & White”: The Black & White pack features monochrome uppers with a glimmer of metallic GraphLite, offset by the organic warmth of raw gum outsoles. The Black & White pack stays true to Smith’s “no more than what you need” vision. The Instapump Fury Boost “Black & White” will be available beginning 6 December at select global outlets.
The Instapump Fury Boost “Prototype” is available in shops now, retailing for just under R3 000.
