Samsung has started off 2017 with aplomb, at least on the consumer device side of things, as the company recently announced that pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 have set a new record for the South Korean manufacturer. 

According to Samsung's numbers, the S8 has already garnered 30% more pre-orders than its predecessor, which is quite impressive given several concerns raised about manufacturing quality following the Galaxy Note 7 battery fiasco. 

Samsung has not detailed official numbers, so it's hard to gauge how many of those pre-order numbers can be attributed to South Africa. That said, having seen the reaction from local consumers on social media the night the S8 and S8+ were unveiled in New York, both devices should prove hot commodities when they officially arrive 5 May locally.
