Samsung begins rolling out Bixby voice assistant in US
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 19 July 2017 | Categories: newsWhen Samsung debuted the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in New York a few months ago, one of the devices' big features was the announcement of Bixby. At the time, the company's version of a digital assistant imbued with AI functionality was not available on the phones in its full capacity.
That's changed, however, with the voice-enabled portion of Bixby landing on Galaxy S8 and S8+'s in the United States. Samsung has confirmed that an update for Bixby will be rolling out in coming days, which will also include a few tweaks to the assistant as well.
The South Korean manufacturer also notes that the voice assistant aspect of Bixby has been improved from the iteration first demoed at launch. To that end, it's said to be better at understanding language, and should yield more correct results. Whether or not it can handle accents and inflections, remains to be seen.
While Galaxy S8 and S8+ users in the States will soon be able to interact with Bixby, those touting the device locally still remain in the dark as to Bixby's full voice functionality.
