We're familiar with LED (Light Emitting Diode), OLED and ULED TVs, but now Samsung has added a new version to the mix - QLED (Quantum Light Emitting Diode). "A new era," according to the South Korean manufacturer, Samsung says 2017 will see a significant paradigm shift when it comes to display technology utilised in premium TVs for 2017.

To that end, before CES in Las Vegas officially kicks off tomorrow, Samsung held a pre-show event to unveil its lineup of QLED TVs. Before we delve into the different models, let's touch in the technology that Samsung says will set their offerings apart from the rest of the pack.

Utilising a metal quantum dot material, the QLED TVs are said to reproduce a 100% colour volume, as well as feature a peak luminance of between 1500 and 2500 nits. Added to this is a DCI-P3 colour space accuracy, which delivers greater brightness according to Samsung.

The 2017 lineup of QLED TVs will be available to view on the CES showroom floor from 5 January onwards, with Samsung displaying the Q9, Q8 and Q7 models respectively. At this stage, the company's local head office has not disclosed when the QLED TVs will arrive in South Africa.
