Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 arrives in South Africa on 11 NovemberBy Robin-Leigh Chetty 5 October 2016 | Categories: news
Phablet fiends have been monitoring the status of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 quite attentively, especially as several reports of exploding batteries prompted a global recall and delays in many regions. For South African consumers, the battery issue postponed the device's release to November, and now Samsung has confirmed that it will be available on 11 November.
“Consumers will be able to purchase the new Galaxy Note 7 on 11 November in South Africa. These devices are completely safe to use and present no battery cell issues,” says Craige Fleischer, director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.
To quell any fears regarding the battery, Samsung says it has implemented three software changes. These include a green battery icon that will be visible in the top right-hand corner of the screen, as well as appearing an Always-On display and the Power Off prompt screen. Whether these measures will indeed allay any concerns remains to be seen.
While a release date for the phablet is now known, pricing for the various onboard storage models have not been disclosed at this stage. Hopefully more information regarding the value of the Galaxy Note 7 will be forthcoming.
