Samsung’s next Unpacked confirmed for 11 February
By Ryan Noik 13 January 2020 | Categories: newsSamsung’s first major announcement of 2020 is imminent, with the company confirming 11 February as the date for its next Unpacked.
It’s a near uncertainty that we will see the next iteration in the Galaxy S series, only instead of being called the S11, it will likely be called the Galaxy S20. Also on the cards is that all indications are that a few variants will be launched, as was the case with the S10 and S10 Plus. For the S20, expect a more affordable or standard version leading the charge, and then a higher specced one, as well as a 5G unit.
Some leaked images suggest the S20/S20 Plus will boast four cameras, superseding the excellent S10’s three rear camera array.
Name changes and camera arrays are not the only leaks. As is always the case when there is ahigh anticipation for new hardware from Samsung, the internet has been abuzz with rumours that Samsung will also be announcing a new foldable device, called the Samsung Bloom according to SamMobile. Instead of unfolding horizontally, apparently the Bloom will do so more like the Motorola Razr, expanding vertically.
Samsung’s own official video hints and teases that there will be more than one major announcement coming at the next Unpacked – if you look carefully at the video below, it’s not difficult to infer that the two shapes in the video are reminiscent of the leaked images of the S20 and the Bloom. As well, the official invite promises that “Samsung Electronics will unveil new, innovative devices (note the plural) that will shape the next decade of mobile experiences.”
In the meantime we have reached out to Samsung locally for some official confirmation as to whether the company will be holding an Unpacked event locally in conjunction with the international one, as it has done in the past, offering a chance to go hands on with the devices once they have been officially revealed. Either way, expect Samsung to throw down the gauntlet ahead of Mobile World Congress.
Livestreaming of the event will be available here.
