While Marvel's big screen projects are getting much of the attention these days, we shouldn't forget the medium that helped breathe life into movies such as this year's Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. With that in mind, we turn our attention to a new comic book series from Marvel titled Secret Empire, with the first issue arriving on Free Comic Book Day, happening 6 May.

As you can tell from the lead image, Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) is in fact a Hydra agent, and helps lead the organisation to power within the Marvel universe. While the comic book has stirred some controversy given the current political climate, Marvel has maintained that this forthcoming series does not try to depict any political parallels.

Along with centering around several of Marvel's most iconic characters, Secret Empire has also enlisted the creative talents of Nick Spencer, Steve McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino, Leinil Yu and Daniel Acuña.

If you needed any further coercing to read this latest Marvel comic, take a gander at the teaser video for it after the break.
