South Africa only received Spotify in an official capacity last month, but local users could be getting an update to the music streaming platform shortly. According to reports, the mobile version of the app could be a significant amount of changes, with a event scheduled for 24 April possibly explaining them.

Bloomberg appears to already have insider knowledge though, with the mobile update said to include some UI enhancements. The most notable difference to the update would be the ability to have on-demand playlists, instead of the shuffle play function currently available. This would bring the free version of Spotify closer to the experience of the paid Premium version.

There is no mention of what will happen to ads or downloading of playlists of the free variant of Spotify, but those are likely features that will be here to stay. Other rumoured features like voice control are not said to be a part of this update.

With Spotify already proving a hit locally in only a matter of weeks, this reported update could drive even more new users to the free version of the platform. Whether it comes to fruition though, will have to wait until 24 April.
