Sony limply responds to controversy about PS4 Fortnite accountsBy Robin-Leigh Chetty 14 June 2018 | Categories: news
If you're a seasoned Fortnite gamer, the news that one cannot play the game on a Nintendo Switch if you originally had a PS4 account for the title, should be all too familiar. This lack of crossplay has naturally earned the ire of gamers, with some petitioning Sony for a response on the issue.
After a few days of silence, Sony has issued a statement, but it's not what gamers were hoping for, with the company noting that it welcomes the feedback from its users. But that's about it, with Sony not commenting on whether a solution is in the works, instead mentioning that cross-play is available from PS4 to PC, Mac, iOS and Android, but not the Nintendo Switch.
"We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. Fortnite is already a huge hit with PS4 fans, offering a true free-to-play experience so gamers can jump in and play online. With 79 million PS4s sold around the world and more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms," said Sony's official statement.
If the company is indeed open to feedback from its users, it should stop blocking gamers from playing the titles they wish on various platforms. This is likely not the last time that Sony will be hearing from their community on this issue, and for their sake a cross-play support fix needs to be made available promptly.
