Sony sold more PS4 consoles in Q3 2016 than it has since 2013 launch
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 3 February 2017 | Categories: newsMuch like Apple and Facebook, the past fiscal quarters have proved quite lucrative for Sony, particularly as far as their PS4 console shipments are concerned. In Q3 2016, the Japanese company shipped an estimated 9.7 million consoles, an increase of 15.5% during the same quarter last year (8.4 million).
Furthermore, it is the most number of consoles that Sony has shipped in any quarter, with the PS2 holding the previous record of 8.78 million back in Q2 2003. The reason for the record setting quarter is likely due to the release of the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in select markets, as cited by industry analyst Daniel Ahmed.

While Q3 proved a successful one for Sony, the company suffered on yearly hardware revenue, however, dropping by 14.3% to amass 2.41 billion for the year. With no new hardware anticipated for 2017, we'll have to see if Sony will make another loss in revenue.
