ZeniMax may seek injunction to stop Oculus Rift headset sales
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 3 February 2017 | Categories: newsEarlier this week, ZeniMax was awarded $500 million in its lawsuit with Oculus, after it was discovered that the former's code was used in designing the Rift VR headsets' software. The case may not end there, however, as Polygon reports that ZeniMax could be seeking further legal action against the virtual reality company.
“We will consider what further steps we need to take to ensure there will be no ongoing use of our misappropriated technology, including seeking an injunction to restrain Oculus and Facebook from their ongoing use of computer code that the jury found infringed ZeniMax’s copyrights,” said a ZeniMax spokesperson to Polygon.
At this stage, Oculus has not provided any official comment on whether ZeniMax will be pursuing further legal action, but given the nature of how the company won the lawsuit, it could certainly be a possibility. During the case, jurors found that former id Software co-founder and current CTO for Oculus, John Carmack, took a USB containing the ZeniMax VR technology when he left the company.
