Sony tries hand at mobile games again with new ForwardWorks division
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 24 March 2016 | Categories: newsIf you play games, you're well aware that Sony designs a ton of them for consoles and handheld units. What you may not know is Sony's attempt at mobile games, which the company opted to shut down last year, then known as PlayStation Mobile. As the company's plans for PlayStation VR are taking shape, Sony has decided to take another crack at mobile games, announcing its new division called ForwardWorks.
For now, the details on ForwardWorks are basic. According to PlayStation Japan, ForwardWorks will be working on "fully-fledged" gaming titles for mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and select connected products (perhaps in-car connected devices). The newly formed division will be active as of 1 April this year, but precisely when we'll see any games make its way out of ForwardWorks is unclear.
Also uncertain at this stage, is the mobile operating systems that ForwardWorks will cater to. Logically, Android seems the easy choice, as Sony Mobile has long featured it as the go-to OS for its Xperia devices.
