Spielberg's Ready Player One gets a full trailer
By Staff Writer 11 December 2017 | Categories: newsThere’s a number of hot movies coming out next year, not the least of which being Avengers: Infinity War, but one title that we’ve got our eyes on is Ready Player One. If you’ve lived through the 80s playing video games at corner cafes, you should keep this flick on your to-watch list for 2018.
Based on the novel by Ernest Cline (a worthwhile holiday read if you haven’t got one already), Ready Player One will be directed by none other than Steven Spielberg, telling the tale of Wade Owen Watts (Tye Sheridan, X-Men: Apocalypse). He goes by the moniker Parzival when he’s inside the Oasis, a massive virtual reality environment where people escape to after the real-world is all but deteriorated. When the creator of the Oasis, James Halliday (Mark Rylance, The BFG) dies, he leaves control over the Oasis to anyone who can solve a number of elaborate puzzles he devised.
The trailer contains blink-and-you’ll-miss moments in reference to the 80s pop culture that the book so freely draws from. Amongst others, you’ll see the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future, Akira’s bike, the Iron Giant, Transformers, King Kong and a number more, plus some 80s vibes courtesy of Depeche Mode and Van Halen.
Ready Player One is set for release on 30 March 2018. Hit play on the trailer below to see if this movie might not be the box office hit of the year.
