Spotify introduces Spotify Lite for older devices
By Staff Writer 9 July 2019 | Categories: newsNot everyone has the latest and greatest smartphone at their disposal, or the most current operating system and, in recognition of this fact, Spotify has introduced Spotify Lite, a version of the popular streaming music platform that works on older devices and operating systems.
According to the company, Spotify Lite, which weighs in at 10 megabytes, is a small, fast, and simplified version of the full featured music experience that works much like the main Spotify app. Users will still be able to search and play their favourite songs and artists, save them, share with others, discover new music, and enjoy curated playlists according to their preferences.
“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,” explained Kalle Persson, senior product manager at Spotify.
“Lite can be downloaded separately, both for Free and Spotify Premium users, and used either alongside or independently from the main Spotify app on all Android phones running version 4.3 or higher,” elaborated Persson.
The company elaborated that with Spotify Lite, users can easily control their data and storage, as Spotify Lite comes with the ability to set a data limit and get a notification when you reach it. Furthermore, Spotify Lite allows you to control your cache, and clear it with a single tap.
