While the DC live action movies can be a bit hit and miss, their animated movies for the most part is consistently good. Receiving a trailer is the animated Superman: Red Son, based on the comic created by one of our favourite writers, Mark Millar.
Red Son takes a very basic premise – what if Superman did not fell to Earth in the States, but rather in Soviet Russia? With the Cold War in full swing, one could imagine that this can have a major impact on history. The comic was created in 2003 as part of DC’s Elseworlds imprint, which allows for stories not accepted as canon. For example, you had stories ranging from Batman: In Darkest Knight where Bruce Wayne becomes Green Lantern; Superman: The Last Family of Krypton where Kal-El made it to Earth with his family; and Wonder Woman: Amazonia set in Victorian England and starring Jack the Ripper.
Superman: Red Son is directed by Sam Liu, an old hand when it comes to DC’s animated movies, having worked on Reign of the Supermen, The Death and Return of Superman and Batman: The Killing Joke. The flick will go directly to video as part of the DC Universe Original Movies line-up, and should be appearing early 2020.
Hit play to see Russia’s favourite son in action.
