Taking inspiration from Marvel's Thor, a real-life Mjölnir is created
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 15 October 2015 | Categories: newsWith superhero movies being as big as they are, this was bound to happen. We all remember that scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron (review), where the Avengers team is just knocking back a few drinks and hanging out. Then Tony Stark decides to have a contest to see if Thor is the only who can wield his hammer, Mjölnir. All the Avengers fail, but Captain America comes pretty darn close. Now a Venice Beach, California-native, Alan Peng has created his own version of the mystical Asgardian weapon to see if any human is worthy of holding it.
If you click on the video below, you'll see everyone struggle, using all manner of grips and lifting techniques (our pro tip is to lift through your legs). After others fail, Peng simply walks up to the hammer and lifts as if it is no problem. There is a catch however, as the handle of the hammer has a capacitive fingerprint scanner which activates/deactivates Mjölnir's built-in electromagnet, stolen from a microwave.
While this may not go down well with Odin, it is certainly fun to watch. Hit play after the break and enjoy.
