The Tesla Model 3 hasn't quite lived up to the billing since it launched last year, with production for the electric vehicle taking longer than expected and ultimately affecting the volumes that the company could ship.

It has hit yet another snag, although this one is slightly less significant, with a halt in production set to happen for the next four to five days, according to the manufacturer. The hold up is at its assembly plant in Fremont, California, with this shutdown said to be a planned one.

A spokesperson from the company told The Verge that it would be using the time to improve its automation processes at both the Fremont assembly plant and its large-scale Gigafactory in Nevada. The intention is to tackle bottlenecks impacting production, and hopefully improve the speed of production.

With several thousand customers still awaiting their reserved Model 3's, as well as no further word on expanding the car's availability in other countries as Elon Musk promised more than a year ago, it's clear that this electric vehicles has a long road ahead.
