Despite what your opinion might be on 2009’s Watchmen movie – good or bad in relation to the seminal 1987 graphic novel – here we are at something quite new. The first teaser trailer for HBO’s new series has been released, and it certainly leaves the door open for opportunity.

From what can we glimpse it seems like the Watchmen series is set in more contemporary times, far from the Cold War setting of the comics, although superheroes are still persona non grata. It is especially Rorschach that has captured the imagination, with similarly hooded vigilantes ready for action.

The series is written and created by Damon Lindelof, responsible for work on Star Trek Into Darkness, Lost, Cowboys & Aliens and Prometheus. HBO has attracted some decent talent to the series in the form of Jeremy Irons, Louis Gossett Jr., and Don Johnson. As far as the score is concerned, it’s no one else but Oscar winners and Nine Inch Nails band members, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross responsible.

According to IMBD, this is actually the second time that a Watchmen series has been tried, with ex-Monty Python member Terry Gilliam coming close to bringing it to the small screen in the 90s. His series went to preproduction and had, to our mind, a rather brilliant cast - Robin Williams as Rorschach, Jamie Lee Curtis as Silk Spectre and Kevin Costner as Nite Owl.

As for release date of the Watchmen series, well, it’s somewhere in 2019. Hit play below to check how this one might turn out.
