Trailers you might have missed - 21 April 2017
By Staff Writer 21 April 2017 | Categories: newsLuckily a short week, have a look at the following trailers you might have missed before prepping for the weekend.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Tick another one off for the great Frances McDormand (Fargo) who nails it in the trailer for crime movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. If the trailer is anything to go by, escalating violence seems to be the main theme, with billboard advertising targeting Sheriff Bill Willoughby (Woody Harrelson, Cheers) leading to mass town hysteria. The movie is directed by Martin McDonagh, who is also responsible for the highly likable In Bruges and, perhaps less so, Seven Psychopaths.
Release date: 13 October 2017 (USA).
Best bit: Well there are a few, from the gentle enquiry about the can (1:25), getting Officer Jason Dixon’s (Sam Rockwell) name all wrong, and kindly speaking to the reporter (2:20).
The Little Hours
Not for sensitive viewers is this red band trailer for The Little Hours. It starts innocently enough with nuns quietly going about their daily tasks, soon evolving to an unstable f-bomb party. While we’re wondering if the movie can keep it up for a full 90 minutes, The Little Hours does come with a great cast. This includes the suitable Aubrey Plaza (music video for Father John Misty), Alison Brie (Community), Nick Offerman (22 Jump Street), John C. Reilly (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and Fred Armisen (Portlandia). You are going to need to be logged into YouTube to view this filth.
Release date: 30 June 2017 (USA)
Best bit: “Do you think I’ve ever written down, ‘Eating blood’ before?”
Marvel's Cloak & Dagger
A new Marvel TV series is on the way, and this week saw the first trailer for Cloak & Dagger, which follows two teenagers coming to grips with their superpowers and its implications. The pair very quickly form a bond, with Cloak (Aubrey Joseph), capable of engulfing anything in darkness and Dagger (Olivia Holt) imbued with the ability to create blades of light. How much of the Marvel universe will appear in this TV series remains to be seen.
Release date: TBC in 2018.
Best bit: The iconic superhero pose at 1:37.
Lost in London
Woody Harrelson’s directorial debut, Lost in London is a bit of an anomaly. It was shot with one camera, during one take, while being broadcasted live to 500 cinemas. Even thinking about doing this give us a nervous migraine, but by all accounts he pulled it off with aplomb. The movie will be getting a wider release, and has now received its first trailer. Lost in London also stars Owen Wilson and our favourite country singer, Willie Nelson, both of course as themselves.
Release date: 5 May 2017 Stateside.
Best bit: Has to be Harrelson singing the theme tune of Cheers at 0:37.
Wakefield
Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle) can certainly pick and choose which movies he wants to star in, so titles such as Wakefield can certainly fill up his time. Howard Wakefield “disappears” but watches the drama unfolding at his house from an attic, specifically how it affects his wife Diana (Jennifer Garner, Daredevil). This certainly doesn’t look like the feel good hit of 2017, but we can’t help but wonder how director Robin Swicord (The Jane Austen Book Club) will tie it up at the end.
Release date: 14 July 2017.
Best bit: Howard in the snow at 1:45.
BONUS: Honest Trailers: Rogue One
Ever wondered what happened to that scene where Jyn faces off against a TIE fighter? Yeah, us too, and so do the folks over at Honest Trailers, who pretty much nail their latest for Rogue One. Check it out below, just don’t get lost in their back catalogue at work today.
