Plenty of users are always on Twitter, but will they consider Always-On Twitter? To date, the social media platform has been limited to sending out messages, images, GIFs and short videos, but the company is gearing up to shake things up a bit. Having recently chatted to BuzzFeed News, Twitter COO Anthony Noto said 24/7 live content is on the way for Twitter.

Noto did not mention when this programming addition would begin, but did mention that news, sports, TV shows and perhaps some original content will form part of the offering. Twitter has already tried to fulfill the sports aspect, failing to secure the rights to Thursday Night NFL games, with Amazon winning the bid.

For now the type of content that Twitter is working on remains to be seen, but Noto adds that the company has quite a few plans in motion. “We’re working on many, many things. There’s a lot in the pipeline,” he explained.

A clearer indication of Twitter's 24/7 programming plans could be laid out at NewFronts in New York City next week. With traditional TV being encroached upon by other formats like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, perhaps this new plan from Twitter is just what the social media platform needs to remain relevant.
