Twitter's change from Favourites to Likes is 6% more popular according to company
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 11 November 2015 | Categories: newsLast week, Twitter made the change from Favourites to Likes. While this alternation for some felt a bit too similar to the system Facebook currently has in place, it appears Twitter users are quite keen on hearts instead of stars. So much so, that the company is reporting a 6% increase in the use of Likes over Favourites in just over seven days.

This figure was announced yesterday at the Open Mobile Summit in San Francisco, California by Twitter's senior vice president of product, Kevin Weil. The move from Favourites to Likes was made after an analysis by the company's research team, believing that the change would bring about great user engagement.
As such, it turns of their research team was indeed correct given the 6% increase, although we have a feeling that much of that has to do with curiosity about the new Like feature itself. In fact, Weil stated that the 6% increase was only among current Twitter users, and newly signed up users use of Like increased by 9%. As The Verge points out, however, the way Twitter categorises new and existing users is not made clear, which brings the figures into question slightly.
Perhaps then, seeing if this increased usage trend continues to grow in coming weeks will prove far more interesting.
