Over the past few years, Uber has served as the benchmark by which all companies aiming to disrupt an industry are measured. The ridesharing service does not seem to content with its current standing, however, with uberAIR or Project Elevate as it's more recently been known as, begins to take shape.

uberAIR plans to deploy 'flying cars' in a handful of cities in the United States, offering users an air taxi of sorts for longer haul trips. Currently on the roster of cities are Dubai in the Middle East, and Dallas-Fort Worth in the States, which has now been joined by Los Angeles.

Announcing the addition at Web Summit in Lisbon this week, Uber head of product Jeff Holden, says the company aims to have the air taxi service up and running in the City of Angels by 2020.

Along with the announcement of a new American city in its plans, Holden also confirmed that Uber has signed a deal with NASA to assist with the air traffic control systems necessary to track these low flying aircraft.

While it's still unclear at this stage how uberAIR will work, a new video has been released to offer a glimpse into how the air taxi service could operate. Check it out below.
