Marvel and DC might be the big boys, but at long last we are seeing some smaller comic book publishers coming to Netflix. One with a number of titles to explore is Dark Horse Comics, perhaps most famous for Hellboy and Sin City. Soon to come to Netflix as a series is Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy, which debuted back in 2007.

The streaming service has now released the first teaser, and we must say, it has intrigued us enough that we can’t wait for its 15 February debut.

Here’s the deal. 43 kids are born to mothers who before birth showed no sign of pregnancy. Obviously there’s some divine power involved, so six of them are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeve. The billionaire sets up The Umbrella Academy and starts training the kids to become superheroes. However, as the kids grow up, things don’t progress as expected but with a looming apocalypse on the horizon, the Umbrella Academy might be the only ones that can help.

The 10 part series stars Ellen Page (Inception), Tom Hopper (Black Sails), Robert Sheehan (Misfits) and songstress Mary J. Blige (Mudbound). It’s helmed by an old hand when it comes to geek related fare, Peter Hoar, including Netflix’s Altered Carbon, Daredevil and Doctor Who. Hit the trailer below and don’t forget to buy the comics if you haven’t read The Umbrella Academy before.
