Until Dawn’s butterfly effect mechanic explained
By Ryan Noik 7 August 2015 | Categories: newsOne of the more intriguing games we managed to preview recently was Until Dawn.
It was not just because of the Cabin in the Woods-like survival horror setting, which we have seen before many times in movies that it so captivated. Rather, it was due to a unique butterfly effect dynamic where the smallest choices you make as you progress through the game can have unforeseen consequences down the road.
Now, a video has surfaced somewhat explaining more about how this mechanic works to those who have not yet had the pleasure of playing through a bit of the game themselves. In it, you also get a glimpse of the different ‘turn right or turn left’ types of snap decisions you need to make.
For example, do you fight or do you run? If you fight, do you stab your opponent or try burn them? Do you favour the safer but longer route or risk a shorter, more dangerous one? The beauty of these small, seemingly innocuous decisions is that they can neatly add up to you or one of your friends’ surviving or perishing.
The good news we don’t have too long to wait until the full game releases - it arrives on the 26th August.
