At the beginning of May, Telkom DGL went through a change, becoming VS Gaming in the process and upping its prominence in the local eSports space. To that end, the company has a new football gaming festival, featuring FIFA 17, kicking off next month at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 22-23 July.

As with many of VS Gaming's event, the prize pool is sizeable, totalling an estimated R1.5 million. Registration for the event is currently open to the public, with a qualification process in place for the thousand spots of the two-day long tournament. VS Gaming notes that tournament participation is free, but attendees will have to pay R100 for tickets, which seems a bit steep, especially if you want to encourage people coming to large eSports events.

That said, there are a few things happening during the festival for those who are attending, with VS Gaming confirming that South African artists Cassper Nyovest, Ricky Rick, DJ Fresh and Euphonik all performing. One attendee will also stand the chance to win a Mercedes-Benz smart car, although the precise model has not been disclosed. Furthermore, the games will be streamed live via Supersport's Ginx eSports channel.

With eSports on the rise in SA, we're hoping VS Gaming hosts more of these events in future.
