In a report from Business Insider yesterday, it was suggested that Yahoo would be rebranded. Following that the CEO of AOL, Tim Armstrong, confirmed via Twitter that Yahoo and AOL would indeed be merging as a Verizon subsidiary company called Oath.

The Verizon deal is still to close, but when it does, the telecom company will gain control of many of Yahoo's key web assets. As such, we could see Yahoo Mail and News be replaced by an Oath equivalent.

While Yahoo is yet to officially comment on the rebranding, AOL has wasted no time in doing so. “In the summer of 2017, you can bet we will be launching one of the most disruptive brand companies in digital," said a company statement to The Verge. Whether it can deliver on such a promise remains to be seen, but it may be doing so without current Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, sources tell Recode

As such, the next few months could prove pivotal for Oath.
