Viv makes debut at TechCrunch Disrupt NY as it aims to go beyond SiriBy Robin-Leigh Chetty 10 May 2016 | Categories: news
Last week, we wrote about a new AI platform named Viv. It's designed by the same team behind Apple's Siri, with the aim of being an "intelligent interface for everything", according to Viv Labs. Along with previewing the platform in action several days ago, Viv Labs co-founder Dag Kittlaus stated that a fully fledged demo of Viv would be made this week. Now Viv has finally seen the light of day, making its official debut at TechCrunch Disrupt New York.
The team at Viv Labs sees its new AI platform as a true gamechanger, going as far as to say it is "beyond Siri". During the demo of Viv, Kittlaus asked it a series of questions to showcase its functionality. As TechCrunch's Lucas Matney noted, the questions themselves were rather specific. “Will it be warmer than 70-degrees near the Golden gate bridge after 5pm the day after tomorrow?,” said Kittlaus. Naturally Viv had a rapid fire answer locked and loaded.
While Vivi might be able to answer more complicated questions than Siri can, that isn't the platform's truly noteworthy ability. Viv appears to have an open input for other third party applications. An example of this was when Kittlaus asked Viv to pay one of his friends $20. Viv then brought up a pay button via Venmo (a mobile payment platform), and with one click, he was paid.
The expected launch date for Viv was not detailed at TechCrunch Disrupt NY yesterday, but Kittlaus did state that early integrations would be arriving within the coming year. For more of an understanding about what Viv can offer, hit play on the TechCrunch Disrupt NY video below.
