"By making a line, it's a seismograph of the soul," says notable Disney lead animator Glen Keane. Set to speak at this year's Future of StoryTelling Summit taking place in New York City from 7-8 October, Keane has appeared in a video titled Step into the Page in which he uses VR technology to animate.

Keane begins the video by narrating his own journey into animation and what it means to him, while drawing at his table with a pencil and paper. He then dons an HTC Vive VR headset, along with the Tilt Brush VR tool to begin drawing in 3D.

With more than four decades of animating experience working at Walt Disney, Keane has drawn iconic characters from Aladdin, Pocahontas and Tarzan. Seeing Keane in action is quite interesting, and we get to observe the animations come to life, both from a first-person perspective as well as TV screen behind him. As the video continues, Keane shows how VR technology can be used in the world of animation and design by drawing the titular Beast from Disney's Beauty & The Beast, and Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
