Windows 10 Insider Preview highlights Cortana's cross-platform features
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 7 April 2016 | Categories: newsMicrosoft has been working on improving the cross-platform functionality of Windows 10, and the fruit of their labours will soon be sampled. For now though, the company has released a Preview Build (14316) for its "Fast Ring" Windows Insider members to test out. While there is a slew of added features to fawn over, such as running native Bash on Ubuntu for Windows, as well as personalisation enhancements and new emoji, it is the Cortana functionality that is getting the most face time from Microsoft.
These new Cortana features will be only be available to Insider members that have a Windows 10 Mobile or Android device that sports 1.5 version of the Cortana app. In it, users can now receive low battery notifications of their mobile device to pop up on the screen of the Windows 10 PC or notebook. Added to this is a Find My Phone or Ring My Phone aspect, but will require location settings on the Windows 10 Mobile device to have been turned on. Furthermore, Microsoft has integrated the ability to share map and location data across devices.
Microsoft has, however, noted on its Experience Blog page that some of the Cortana features have proved a tad buggy for some early testers, but that the next mobile build will iron out any Cortana-related kinks.
