Worldmate to shut down
By Ryan Noik 26 January 2017 | Categories: newsOne of the go-to apps for travellers, WorldMate, will soon be no more, with it checking out of the App Stores for good as of 31st of March. The app, which has enabled travellers to easily get their flight details by emailing their confirmation number to a centralised address, will see its features shuttered on a staggered basis. First to go has been new Gold memberships, and the ability to make hotel and car bookings from within WorldMate.
Those who already have the app (you won’t be able to download it after the end of March) will still be able to enjoy core functionality, such as processing confirmation emails, viewing itineraries, and receiving flight notifications, at least until the end of September this year. From October onwards, the app will have been officially discontinued and no longer work in any capacity.
The reason given by the company for the closure is to concentrate on developing travel solutions for global corporate clients. At least inveterate travellers who do make steady use of the app have a couple of alternatives, including TripIt and TripCase, to accomplish mostly the same ends.
