Halo 5: Guardians officially releases on the Xbox One today, and to mark the occasion Microsoft held a livestreamed launch event last night. Amid the nearly seven hour livestream, came news about the latest Windows 10 update for the Xbox One console. The Windows 10 update not only brings a range of cross-platform functionality to the next-gen console, but also a new UI with the ability to play a select number of Xbox 360 games. Said update is primed and ready to port to Xbox One users come 12 November, and should give the Microsoft-owned gaming platform a bit of an edge over its Japanese rival.

According to Engadget, a select number of Xbox One preview program users have already been testing out the new Windows 10 update, with a few growing pains being identified. Described as a "work in progress," by Xbox's resident blogger Major Nelson. He adds, it will "undergo rigorous updating and polishing with the help of our Xbox One preview members."

As such, the company only has a little over two weeks to iron out any remaining kinks from the update before it begins rolling out to users.
