Xbox details new games, Windows 10 and more at Gamescom 2015
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 5 August 2015 | Categories: newsIf you enjoy your gaming news with a bit more European flavour, chances are you're transfixed by everything happening at Gamescom, taking place in Cologne, Germany, this week. As with E3, it was Microsoft, and more specifically Xbox that presented first.
The initial consensus was that Xbox would simply rehash their E3 presentation for Gamescom, and when the company started their media briefing event with same cinematic video, we got a little worried. Thankfully though, as the event rolled on, Xbox detailed a handful of new titles that it's aiming to bring to consoles and PCs alike, as well as some interesting news for Windows 10 users.
The Upcoming Games
First things first though, let's run through the slew of new titles that Xbox debuted. The gaming company wasted no time in showcasing its exclusive titles, the first of which is Quantum Break. This game will meld together a couple of gaming genres, with third-person shooters, puzzle solvers and an episodic-gaming style all rolled into one. As such, based in the trailer below, the results look quite impressive. Primed for release in 2016, Quantum Break could prove to be one of Xbox's crown jewels next year.
The exclusives did not stop there, with Xbox next giving Gamescom attendees a chance to see Scalebound. Currently under development from Platinum Games, Scalebound is kind of like a buddy cop game, if one of the cops was a giant dragon. It also has a Final Fantasy-esque/Monster Hunter quality to it, especially when you see our main protagonist Drew and his trusty dragon Thuban in action after the break.
Next up was Crackdown 3, which Xbox offered a first look at. While the premise of the game is to simply stop the bad guys by any means necessary. More interesting though, is that Crackdown is said to use Microsoft's cloud in order to run the MMO portion of the game, in which gamers can interact in a "completely destructible" world. Windows 10 Anyone?
Games didn't get all the attention last night, with Microsoft detailing what Windows 10 users can look forward to in coming months. Firstly, a dedicated Windows 10 live tile app will be porting to Xbox One consoles in November this year. The app will allow users to play compatible Xbox One titles on their PC, as well as broadcast their latest conquest via a DVR service built-into Windows 10. As such, users can then stream DVR content from the Windows PC to their Xbox One, and vice versa.
Xbox's Gamescom certainly surprised us, and it seems like the company's pitch of cross-platform gaming could be coming to fruition, with the impending arrival of Windows 10 to the Xbox One, as well as Windows Phone 10 set to land in coming months.
