YouTube Red's Original series rolling out 10 February
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 4 February 2016 | Categories: newsLate October last year, YouTube's premium paid-subscription service, Red, went live. Shortly thereafter, YouTube Red detailed that it would be developing original TV and movie content for the paid platform. Now it’s been confirmed that 10 February is the release date for YouTube Red's first batch of Original content.
Those currently signed up for the premium service, paying roughly $10 per month or more, will be able to watch exclusive content from YouTubers like PewDiePie and Lily Singh. To promote their content, YouTube has released trailers for each (pasted below).
As much as YouTube Red's Original shows are about giving the platform a degree of exclusivity, the Google-owned company says it is also striving to help creatives reach a larger audience. "With YouTube Red Originals, we want to help them tell bigger and bolder stories that delight you, their fans," noted on official YouTube blog posting. Adding, "YouTube Red is your opportunity to support the passion projects your favorite creators have only dreamed about until now."
OK, so it’s quite a far way off Netflix’s original content, but click on the two trailers below to see whether YouTube Red's Original shows can tempt that $10 from your wallet.
