YouTube releases mobile Live streaming to select creators
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 24 June 2016 | Categories: newsLive streaming has been a part of the YouTube desktop platform since 2011. It was used to document the Royal Wedding (William and Kate), as well as Felix Baumgartner's freefall from space. The company also recently put it to use for a 360-degree video at Coachella. Now, YouTube is taking things to the next level by introducing live streaming for its mobile app.
The service will soon be baked into the YouTube app, according to the company. But for now, mobile live streaming is in the hands of a few select YouTube creators, including The Young Turks, Alex Wassabi and others.
These creators will be putting the live streaming service through its paces at VidCon 2016, currently underway in Anaheim, California.
As for when other YouTube mobile app users will be able to experience it, no official release date has been disclosed. With Twitter-owned Periscope and Facebook Live offering similar services, it should prove interesting to see how YouTube's version fares.
