Nintendo's amiibo figures, which are compatible with a number of Wii U and 3DS titles, have played a big part in the Japanese company's strong sales of late. As such, several new additions have been made to the roster, as Nintendo hopes to keep the momentum and interest in their games going.

Several new figurines are being added, and will be available as of 29 May at major retailers. Following the May batch of releases, Nintendo will also be releasing two more batches in July and September. Some of the more interesting characters include Dr. Mario and Pac-Man, both of which can be used in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS consoles.

Not just a nice collectible to own, the amiibos are able to unlock specific in-game content for users. For the new Splatoon Wii U game for example, the game's specific amiibos can unlock special missions, the completion of which will give gamers exclusive weapons and upgrades.
