AMD along with its partners Patriot Memory and VisionTek Products have announced the North American retail availability of the company’s first memory branded desktop system memory modules. The GPU and CPU maker said that AMD memory branded products will help users to make the best choices when it comes to the DRAM selection for their gaming or multimedia PC.

Available at three different sizes, which are 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB, AMD memory products also fall within a range of price points as well as speeds. The entertainment category will feature 1333 MHz and 1600 MHz speed RAM is designed for discreet home theater PC applications. The performance version supports speeds up to 1600 MHz with low latency, whilst the Radeon edition DRAM that will run at 1866 MHz and is tuned, tested and certified for specific AMD platforms.

The company used the AMD OverDrive performance optimisation tool to test and optimise its DRAM, in conjunction with its APUs, CPUs, GPUs and chipset platforms. This also assisted AMD in tuning and optimising memory modules for other manufacturers and its new memory line will enables retailers to include DDR3 RAM modules with AMD bundles with the company’s processors and graphics cards.

“AMD has been supplying and validating memory for AMD Radeon graphics cards for several years,” said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager of AMD’s GPU Division.

“Based on this experience, adding system memory to our product line was a clear opportunity for us. This move provides our partners and end-users with a trusted brand synonymous with quality – we can help ensure performance and reliability with AMD memory.”

No local release is available yet, but the company did say that "plans for EMEA [Europe, Middle East & Africa] will be coming in the near future".

 

In related news AMD also recently launched its Opteron 6200 and 4200 Series processors, formerly code-named Interlagos and Valencia respectively.
