Google’s Android mobile operating system (OS) continues its upwards curve. The strong growth of this popular mobile OS has been illustrated by the company’s senior VP of mobile and digital content Andy Rubin, who revealed the latest milestone figures achieved by the Android Market.

Rubin stated that the number of available apps in the Android Market has tripled from the 150 000 apps announced last year at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011, to over 450 000 applications. More than a billion app are being downloaded each and every month.

In his post on the Google Mobile blog, Rubin also noted that the year-on-year growth rate for Android-powered mobile devices is over 250%, with 850 000 new Android-running devices being activated daily. The total number of Android-operating smartphones and tablets around the world has now surpassed the 300 million mark.
 
In related news Motorola Mobility recently revealed its list of Android-operating mobile devices and the time-frame by which they will be updating the software to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
