Research In Motion (RIM) has announced the availability of the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone in a new royal purple finish on the Vodacom network.

 
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 features a full-QWERTY keyboard for comfortable, 256 MB Flash memory and a 512 MHz next generation processor. It also carries a 2 MP digital camera with zoom and video recording.
 
In addition it incorporates expandable memory via hot swappable microSD/SDHC memory card slot, supporting cards of up to 32 GB. A 2 GB card is included.
 
The BlackBerry 8520 does not however feature 3G networking or GPS. 
 
As one of the most popular handsets on the market, BlackBerry’s addition of an additional colour finish for the 8520 is bound to go down well with consumers. Thus far, the model has been credited with bringing BlackBerry to a broader market due to its cost effectiveness. 
 
RIM has confirmed that the purple finish BlackBerry 8520 will be available on MTN networks soon, although no official release date or pricing details have been given.
