Samsung Galaxy S passes sales milestone
By Hanleigh Daniels 7 October 2010 | Categories: newsSamsung has revealed that its Android-powered Galaxy S smartphone has produced sales of over five million units around the world. Two million of these have been sold in the US, whilst a further million has been sold in the South Korean manufacturer’s backyard.
The 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm Samsung Galaxy S sports a 4" Super AMOLED display (480 x 800 pixels) and is powered by Android 2.1 and a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU. It also boasts a five megapixel camera, with which it can record HD-ready (720p video), 8 GB of internal storage plus an 8 GB micro SD card as well as the ability to provide users with rich augmented reality content via Layar Reality Browser and advanced LBS (location based services).
Samsung is likely to increase sales beyond the achieved milestone, seeing that the company will be launching the Galaxy S smartphone in Japan in late October, just before it launches the GALAXY Tab in November of this year.
South Africans have had access to the Galaxy S since it became available at participating Vodacom outlets as of 20 August 2010.
