BlackBerry holding company Research In Motion (RIM) today introduced the new BlackBerry Curve 3G to customers in South Africa. The new smartphone is now available from MTN and Vodacom.
 
The BlackBerry Curve 3G supports high-speed 3G (HSDPA) networks, which are prevalent throughout South Africa.
 
“The BlackBerry Curve series has been very popular in South Africa and we are excited to introduce this new model to local customers,” said Deon Liebenberg, regional director for Sub-Sahara Africa at Research In Motion (RIM). “The new BlackBerry Curve 3G offers users fast performance and powerful features, together with an attractive design and an affordable price.”
 
The BlackBerry Curve 3G smartphone features a full-QWERTY keyboard, an optical trackpad, built-in GPS and Wi-Fi plus dedicated media keys. 
 
The new smartphone also features a camera that can record video and a microSD/SDHC slot that supports up to 32 GB memory cards for media storage. 
 
The BlackBerry Curve 3G ships with BlackBerry OS 5 and unlike the older Curve will be able to support BlackBerry OS 6. 
 
Local pricing details have not yet been confirmed.
