Games consoles are going to die. This according to movie director Steven Spielberg.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Spielberg stated that in future we might play games on TV screens without the need for consoles. Spielberg recently developed Boom Blox for the Wii in conjunction with Electronic Arts. In the near future he is looking forward to 3D games being developed for monitors designed specifically for 3D. After that Spielberg says that feels that virtual reality might be redeveloped, forming a “new platform for our gaming future”.

On a question on how much he is involved with Boom Blox, Spielberg says that unless he is on location for a movie, he is at EA at least once a week, and that he is very interactive with the Boom Blox developers. A follow on, Boom Blox Bash Party is expected to launch soon.
