The wait might not have been as long as for the iPad, but at long last Dell's 5" Streak tablet/ big smartphone, is available at Vodacom across the country.

Powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, this sleek carbon black Android-based tablet features a 5” capacitive multi-touch display. This makes it smaller than most other tablets on the market, fitting the Streak neatly into the grey area between smartphones and netbooks. Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G capabilities will also enable users mobile online access.

The Dell streak is available at Vodacom starting today, with a recommended retail price of R6999, or alternatively it is available on the following packages:

On a 36 month My Meg 500: R349 per month
On a 24 month MyMeg 500: R429 per month

The tablet is also capable of performing voice calls and can send text messages; this sets it apart from the iPad but not the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Dell Streak also features MicroSD support for up to 32 GB.

Among the Streak’s many features are integrated Google Maps, full screen web browsing, integrated social media apps (Twitter, Facebook, etc), a  high resolution camera, VGA front facing camera and a removable battery.

“The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets,” said Dion Visagie, channel manager, Dell Consumer and SMB Africa. “Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives.”

Currently the Galaxy Tab sells for round-about R8499 and Apple's 16 GB iPad with 3G from R5599.
