Remember the Dell XPS 13 (review) ultrabook that we – and many others – spent quite some time drooling over and lavishing with well deserved praise last year?

 

Well, apparently at this year’s Consumer Electronic Show, Dell is in the process of making already impressive ultrabook even better. This is no small feat - the ultrabook impressed us so much that it garnered second spot on our top five notebooks of 2012.

 

The company has already updated the processor to the latest (3^rd generation) Ivy Bridge towards the end of last year, now the screen may well be receiving a bump up in due course as well. Digital Trends reported that the ultrabook’s refresh will also include the option to opt for a 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution, rather than the 1366 x 768 we saw last year.

 

Additionally, Tom’s Hardware reported that  the upgraded IPS display will apparently receive a brightness boost (up to 350 nits). In other respects, the already laudable ultrabook will likely remain the same, available with either a 128 GB or 256 GB solid state drive, and with either Core i5 or Core i7 processors.

 

 

The upgraded beauty is apparently slated for release, Stateside at least, later this month. With the exception of the screen, it appears that the company won’t mess around with the XPS 13’s build or aesthetics.

 

This is as heartening news as the screen improvement, particularly since the lovely curvy frame of the XPS 13 was one of the aspects that made us fall in love with it in the first place.
