These days social networking sites do a lot more than just connect you with friends, as both Facebook and Twitter proved when reuniting family members last month. Now it would seem that there is a lot of validity to the intense critique that Facebook received over privacy, as it is being used to gather evidence for court cases.
 
Ken Altshuler, an American divorce lawyer, told CNN how he is employing social networking sites to source evidence and tips on behalf of his clients. Altshuler discussed a case where his client wanted to divorce her alcoholic husband, as she believed that he was drinking again, but had no evidence.

A mutual friend of the couple tipped Altshuler off to photos posted on his Facebook page, showing him drinking beer at a party a few weeks before. The photos were presented in court  as evidence and Altshuler won the case.
 
“Facebook is a great source of evidence,” Altshuler explained. “It’s absolutely solid evidence because he’s the author of it. How do you deny that you put that on?”
